South Hall
The Ridge Neighborhood
Spacious suites with a variety of unique social spaces provide community opportunities for the 348 UNC Bears at South Hall. Located next to the Holmes Dining Hall, South Hall is only a short bike-ride or walk to West Campus academic buildings.
South Hall and North Hall were built in 2008 and 2009 respectively, and are known as the “twin halls.” Cozy nooks under circular windows and multiple kitchens and lounges provide students a state-of-the-art living experience on the UNC campus. South Hall is near the Butler-Hancock Athletic Center and Nottingham Field football stadium; the proximity of the Gear Shop, in Harrison Hall, provides convenient access to equipment check out for a Bear’s next Outdoor Pursuits adventure. Criminal Justice majors, in the CCJ Residential Learning Community, also make Turner Hall their campus home.

Residential Learning Communities
South Hall is home to the Residential Connection of the Cumbres Community. Cumbres is a living and learning program for UNC Bears who are planning to teach in K-12 schools and are working toward an English as a Second Language (ESL) or Bilingual/Bicultural endorsement.
The Resident Assistant in South Hall is a Cumbres student who is familiar with the program and can help you get involved on campus. Cumbres staff members are hired to provide support and guidance through your first year on campus and help you adjust to college life as well as meet the requirements of the program. This is a great way to connect with like-minded students who are in Cumbres and also want to be teachers. You will be in classes together, be able to study and attend events, and hopefully make some life-long friends by living in South Hall.
