Forrest (“Frosty”) Frease was a faculty member in the Department of English at UNC
from 1949 to 1980. After his retirement, Frosty and his wife Cynthia established the
Frease/Colwell Honors Program Award to recognize an outstanding senior English major.
Students are chosen according to their academic promise and ability that they demonstrate
in their English courses. Preference is given to students who are also enrolled in the Honors Program.
In order to be considered for the scholarship, students must complete the UNC Universal Scholarship Application by March 1 of each year.
Students do not need to demonstrate financial hardship or complete the Free Application
for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Students do not need to write long essays in order
to be considered; a short statement responding to the essay question will suffice.
