“…summer’s lease hath all too short a date.”*
I don’t know about you all, but this summer flew by faster than ever! Did you get that article finished? I hope you did. I, unfortunately, did not. With the support of four amazing Co-PIs, I did manage to get a grant submitted (fingers crossed). I also tried to listen regularly to some podcasts and read some books. On what topics, you ask? Teaching, of course (secretly, though, I did read one romance novel). See my post from May with a list of great podcasts and books! Here is my “Best of Teaching PD Summer 2021”:
Best Podcast Episodes
- Leading Equity Podcast, Episode # 097: 4 Things to Consider in the Pursuit of Fostering Equitable and Inclusive Classrooms with Dr. Amy Samuels
- Teaching in Higher Ed Podcast Episode # 370: Toward more equitable assessment with Erin Whitteck & Douglas Fritz.

In addition to all that, we were busy in CETL this summer preparing for fall semester and we’ve got a lot coming your way. Today is the first day of New Faculty Orientation and we are welcoming 27 new full-time faculty and over 20 new adjuncts to our community. It’ll be a great two days. Starting in September you’ve got two learning community opportunities – How Learning Works and Improving Student Learning with OER and Open Pedagogy. Is that all? Heck no! Also starting in September is the Preparing for Inclusive Teaching Workshop Series and, just for graduate students, the new Certificate in College Teaching, and the Graduate Student Learning Community. Wait…there’s more! Join CETL and University Libraries for the Scholar Spotlight Series this fall with Deans Sher Gibbs and Jennifer Nutefall.
What else? Be on the lookout later this semester for the call to participate in the 2022 Teaching for Inclusion & Equity (TIE) cohort, the Writing Pedagogy Learning Community, and the Teaching & Assessment Symposium. This fall you’ll be asked to complete an instructor needs assessment to ensure CETL programming is responsive to your needs.
I told you a lot was coming your way! I hope you’ll join one or all of the upcoming opportunities to engage in discussion with your colleagues about teaching practice. Keep up with the blog and all things CETL by regularly visiting our website.
