Campus Recreation Center Policies

Members and guests are required to follow all policies to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone who uses the Recreation Center and the equipment.

  • Attire Policy
    • Remove clothing with zippers, studs, or items that could damage equipment.

    • Avoid clothing designed to increase sweating (e.g., hooded sweatshirts, vinyl clothing, multiple layers) that may get caught in equipment.

    • Athletic shoes must be non-marking and fully enclose the foot, except during official Campus Recreation activities (e.g., Yoga Class).

    • One layer of a top must be worn at all times.
  • Health & Safety
    • Use Gym Wipes from the silver dispensers to clean equipment after each use.

    • Use small sweat towels to create a barrier between your skin and equipment padding.

    • Cover any open cuts, wounds, or sores with a bandage or wrap. First aid supplies are available at the Front Desk.

    • Limit skin-to-pad contact (e.g., exposed leg or arm skin on equipment padding).

    • Wear shirts during high-contact activities to avoid skin-to-skin contact. Pinnies are available at the Front Desk.

    • If experiencing fever or other symptoms, wait 24 hours before resuming activity.

  • Entry and Access

Members must present a valid UNC ID or Recreation Center Membership Card to enter the Rec Center.

If a member forgets their ID or has a damaged card, they can access the facility once by providing another ID and their Bear ID number. They must also sign a waiver acknowledging the policies and agree to resolve the card issue before their next visit to avoid denied access.

  • Personal Belongings

Personal belongings should be locked in a locker for your protection and for the safety of others.

The Campus Recreation Center is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

How We Develop Our Policies

This Attire Policy was jointly development by representatives from Campus Recreation, Center for Women’s and Gender Equity (CWGE), Campus Recreation Advisory Board, Professional Administrative Staff Council (PASC), Classified Staff Council (CSC), Student Employee Board (SEB), and Student Senate.  These groups prioritized the health and safety of patrons and equipment to guide policy decision making.
