PSI Project: An OSEP Grant
Kellie Porter, BA, NIC, Ed:K-12 is an interpreter, mentor, and educator. Her 20-year career in schools started in the regular and Deaf Education classroom settings where she moved from a regular education assistant to a signing classroom assistant. After meeting her state’s requirements for academic and professional credentials, she transitioned into working in K-12 as an interpreter, as well as in the community and in video relay. Kellie’s education started with an ASL Certificate and then an Associate of Applied Science Degree in ASL-English Interpreting from Tidewater Community College in Virginia. She holds a bachelor’s degree in ASL-English Interpretation with a concentration in educational interpreting and a minor in ASL from the University of Northern Colorado. Kellie works full-time as an educational interpreter in Virginia and part-time as an interpreter mentor/educator across the nation. She loves working with other lifelong learners, as well as those who are new in the interpreting field or aspiring to be in the interpreting field, for the benefit of the deaf and hard-of-hearing students’ access.
