Ms. Torrez has 26 years of experience providing academic support services to students, with a special focus on services designed to increase academic achievement, persistence, and degree completion among students from underrepresented populations. She was PI on a federally funded TRIO Student Support Services grant that was recognized as among the top 5% of TRIO programs in the nation. Since 2005, Ms. Torrez has been responsible for supervising six major retention departments at UNC, and she has contributed to and presented nationally on designing assessment and evaluation processes for maintaining high quality student support programs. Based on her expertise in working with faculty and staff on student persistence initiatives, she was asked to co-lead UNC’s participation in the Education Advisory Board’s Student Success Collaborative.
