Program features
UNC’s one year post-baccalaureate premedical program is designed to provide academic enhancement for strong students with a background in biology who want to improve their application to a professional or other biomedically-related graduate school.
The 30 credit hour program includes two semesters of graduate level intensive coursework that will result in a master’s degree in Biomedical Science. This program will help you demonstrate high-level academic achievement while taking a full load of rigorous and challenging courses—which can improve the success of your health professional school applications. Our students have seen an increase in their overall MCAT scores and an average of a 1.5 increase in their biological sciences scores. In order to graduate from the program, students are required to pass a comprehensive examination covering material from core courses.

Your future
One out of three practicing physicians in the United States is over the age of 55, and many will retire in the next 10 or 15 years. Increased demand for healthcare services from the growing and aging population, combined with a shortage of physicians, will result in increased demand for healthcare providers.
Students with an MBS degree have also pursued careers outside of the health professional schools, including clinical research, university teaching, cardiac rehabilitation, research at NIH and Ph.D. programs.
The Learning Experience: On Campus
With a maximum of twenty four students, small class size and the opportunity for one-on-one mentoring and supervision are two of the aspects of the program that contributes to student success. You will also have the opportunity to volunteer in one of the research labs. The curriculum includes 17 credits of required coursework and a minimum of 13 credits of elective courses.
