Priority 4: Transform Libraries Learning Spaces and Environments
University Libraries strives to create and maintain learning spaces and environments that are physically and socially welcoming, accessible, and inclusive, in order to collaborate with students, faculty, staff, and the community.
Goal 1: Support patron learning and comfort through library atmosphere
- Objective 1: Expand opportunities to display student-centered or student-created artwork (this objective is COMPLETED)
- Objective 2: Provide training to University Libraries personnel to better support students and respond to students in crisis (this objective is IN PROGRESS)
- Objective 3: Assess accessibility when looking at trends and technologies (implementation is ON HOLD until the new University Libraries dean is hired)
Goal 2: Modernize and adapt physical spaces
- Objective 1: Consult with students, faculty, and staff and hire outside professionals to assess existing library buildings for potential improvements (this objective is COMPLETED)
- Objective 2: Work with other academic units to advocate for funding and staffing for a centralized campus creative space/Makerspace in Michener Library (implementation is ON HOLD until the new University Libraries dean is hired)
- Objective 3: Experiment with different furniture options, arrangements, and locations to provide distinct study and social spaces (this objective is COMPLETED)
- Objective 4: Increase collaboration through programming and exhibitions with campus partners and the broader community (this objective is COMPLETED)
