Kaitlin Gault, 2013 graduate
Communications Specialist at City of Brighton
“Working in public relations, I’m often referred to as a storyteller. After navigating through my first two years of my undergraduate degree with an undecided major, it wasn’t until I was accepted into the Journalism program that my story really began. The next two years brought me friendships—now connections that are still strong today, challenges to think differently and challenge ‘the norm’ and respect for faculty who constantly pushed me to be and do better. Looking back, I know I would not have started my story any other way.”
Bridgett Weaver, 2012 graduate
Business Reporter at Greeley Tribune
"Journalism is not just a program you study in college. If you’re choosing this career, it’s because you want to make a difference. But you have to learn the rules of editorial writing in college, so you can occasionally break them once you're in the newsroom. UNC’s journalism program taught me that and so much more."
Jameson Rossi, 2010 graduate
Senior Copywriter at Arnold Worldwide, NYC
"Growing up, I loved to perform. Writing skits and monologues was my thing. Although it was fun, I wanted my writing to mean something more. I wanted to evoke emotion in others. Luckily, I discovered the Journalism program at UNC where I found my true voice and learned that advertising was what I wanted to do. It was extremely challenging, filled with plenty of red ink, and constant grammar lessons. But in the end, the most important lesson the program taught me was that my writing could be just as powerful as anything I ever performed."
Ben Warwick, 2013 graduate
Writer/Producer at KCNC-TV, Denver
"There is no doubt in my mind that without the training I received at the journalism program at UNC, I wouldn't have the job I do now. The skills I learned, both in the classroom and hands-on, were invaluable, and the connections I made during my time in the program have set me up for success and given me more opportunities than I ever could have imagined."
