BEAR Admission 2023
Eligibility Criteria:
To be eligible for early or "BEAR Admission" to the Clinical Phase of the Nursing Major (BSN) you must meet the following criteria:
- Current UNC student.
- Entered UNC as a first-time freshman. This means you have not attended any other community colleges or universities that were not supported/co-registered with your high school education.
- Have completed a minimum of 18 credits at UNC.
- Minimum GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale for the most recent 30 semester hours of credit completed. Credit is not given for vocational or remedial courses below college level.
- Completion of 4 or more prerequisite courses (or course equivalents) with a grade of ‘C-’ or higher and/or ‘S+’ (‘S’ or ‘U’ are not acceptable)
- Prerequisite courses or equivalents must have been completed within 10 years of application, except PSY 230, STAT 150, and ENG 123
If you meet the above eligibility criteria, you may submit intent to attend the clinical phase of the BSN nursing program.
Step 1:
Meet with your NHS Nursing Exploring advisor if you have questions about eligibility.
You can email nhsadvising@unco.edu and verify all requirements for Bear Admission have been met.
Step 2:
Notify the School of Nursing.
- Email emily.perkins@unco.edu the following information:
- your name (must match your Degree Works name)
- your Bear Number
- Name of NHS Nursing Exploring advisor
- Indicate intent to attend the clinical nursing program at UNC as a Bear Admission student.
For example: "My name is Courtney Gryskiewicz, Bear Number: 87654321, My advisor is Crystal/Savana, I intend to attend the clinical nursing program at UNC as a Bear Admission student."
- Email must be sent from your UNC Bear Mail outlook account.
