Opera by the Book: UNC Opera Theater Presents Literary Season

September 21, 2017

University of Northern Colorado Opera Theatre presents its annual fall Chamber Opera Festival of two one-act operas, The Happy Prince by Malcolm Williamson and The Little Prince by Rachel Portman.

Based on the familiar children’s fables by Oscar Wilde and Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, these stories are sure to recapture your heart. There are three performance days to catch, at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 13-14 and 2 p.m. Oct. 15 in Langworthy Theater of Frasier Hall on the UNC campus. For ticket information, call the box office at (970) 351-2200 or http://arts.unco.edu/events/ for tickets.

Also, Little Women by Mark Adamo is presented in partnership with the Greeley Philharmonic Orchestra at the Union Colony Civic Center in the Monfort Concert Hall on Nov. 17. This touching tale of sisters coming of age and finding themselves is based upon Louisa May Alcott’s classic novel. Don’t miss the one and only performance of Mark Adamo’s debut opera! For ticket information, call the Union Colony Civic Center’s ticket office at (970) 356-5000.

“Many of the world’s great operas are based on works of literature; after all, opera is simply a good story told in great music with grand singing,” said Brian Clay Luedloff, Director of Opera Theatre for UNC. “We’ve chosen three compelling stories this fall that resonate with all age groups – all performances are appropriate for families and all ages.”
