“Kim Medina is a great fit for the University of Northern Colorado,” Anderson said. “She has experience recruiting students from Colorado and working with high schools in Colorado. She is knowledgeable about enrollment trends in all of higher education, and she takes a holistic approach to supporting students through transitions from first contact through graduation. I look forward to having Kim as part of our leadership team.”
Since joining Mines in 2016, Medina developed and implemented a comprehensive recruitment and admission plan resulting in a 24% increase in first-time, full-time students; a 19% increase in transfer students; and a 40% increase in students of color. Her commitment to higher education access is demonstrated through a consistent focus on student-oriented policies and processes that remove barriers and support student success. In 2019, she received the Colorado Council on High School/College Relations Cynthia Gayles Award for outstanding service in the field of college admissions through active service, leadership, and involvement in organizations which promote higher education.
“I am excited to join the UNC community,” said Medina. “President Feinstein’s vision for our future and the Strategic Enrollment and Student Success Plan provides a strong foundation for the university and specifically the Enrollment Management team to build upon. I look forward to joining the Bear family!”
In addition to her current role at Mines, Medina’s two decades of experience in higher education includes serving as the director of Admissions at Johnson and Wales University in Denver; interim dean of Students/director of Student Outreach and Advising/manager of Information Central at Arapahoe Community College in Littleton; assistant director of Admissions, University of Colorado at Denver; and assistant director of Financial Aid at Garden City Community College in Garden City, Kansas. While at Arapahoe Community College, she created and managed a center that consolidated Admissions, Financial Aid, and the Registrar to ensure efficient and effective service for students.
Medina earned a master’s degree in Educational Counseling from University of Phoenix and a bachelor’s degree in Social and Behavioral Sciences from Mesa State College (now Colorado Mesa University).
Medina, who will start at UNC on June 8, succeeds former interim AVP Sean Broghammer.
