UNC Welcomes AVP for Marketing and Communications

Vice President for University Advancement Allie Steg Haskett announced today that Nikki Troxclair, APR will become assistant vice president for Marketing and Communications.

The announcement comes after a months-long national search to fill the vacant position.

Troxclair brings to UNC over two decades of experience in marketing, public relations, crisis communications, executive communications and branding, most recently as vice president of Strategic Communications & Marketing at Augustana University in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. At Augustana, she oversaw an integrated marketing communications team that implemented numerous enrollment marketing campaigns while increasing brand awareness for the university.

Troxclair’s experience in higher education also includes serving as associate vice president of University Marketing & Communications at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas where she lead a department of 30 professionals and was part of the leadership team that oversaw communications efforts for the 2016 final presidential debate. She has also held positions at the University of South Carolina, Beaufort, Georgia Institute of Technology and University of Minnesota - Twin Cities.

A Saint Paul, Minnesota native, Troxclair earned a master’s degree in Urban Leadership and Public Policy at UNLV, a bachelor’s degree in Journalism from the University of Minnesota and has also completed MBA courses at the University of South Carolina. She is accredited in public relations from the Public Relations Society of America, holds a LEED AP designation from the United States Green Building Council, and is a member of the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society.

Among her honors, she has been awarded by the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education for her role in leading the development of admissions, marketing and development campaigns. She has also earned the Gold Award from the University Professional & Continuing Education Association (UPCEA), an Image and Judges’ Awards from the Florida Public Relations Association, and a Silver Addy Award from the Advertising Federation of America. She has also held various community and organizational leadership positions in Nevada, Minnesota, Georgia and Florida.

Among her responsibilities at UNC, Troxclair will oversee the offices of Creative Services, Marketing, News and Public Relations, and Web Communications; partner with departments and offices in support of the university’s strategic plan; and guide implementation of the Strategic Enrollment and Student Success Plan to recruit and retain students.

Troxclair will begin working at UNC remotely in mid-May as the university’s physical campus currently remains closed and classes are delivered online.
