The University of Northern Colorado (UNC) was recently named one of seven Colorado universities that will receive $10,000 annually from 2023 to 2032 through the Colorado Housing and Finance Authority’s (CHFA) Building the Future scholarship fund. The fund, launched in 2022, dedicates $1.2 million to support college education across Colorado.

The multiphase, multiyear fund will provide up to 260 scholarships to be awarded over the next 10 years. CHFA created the fund to strengthen Colorado’s future workforce, advance equity in education access and promote leadership in affordable housing and economic development.

“Investing in students to help pave the way for them to achieve personal, professional, and financial goals is essential to Colorado’s future. A college education can break down barriers and open doors that lead to stability and prosperity—and everyone deserves these opportunities,” said Cris White, CHFA executive director and CEO. “While CHFA has a history of supporting education, CHFA’s new Building the Future Scholarship Fund allows us to serve young Coloradans in a way we never have before.”

UNC received the scholarship funding as part of the Building the Future scholarship fund’s second phase and will award four $2,500 scholarships annually to Colorado residents who represent the first generation in their family to attend college and who identify as a member of an underrepresented community. Preference will be given to sophomores and above with at least a 2.5 grade point average who are enrolled in UNC’s Kenneth W. Monfort College of Business.

“The Building the Future scholarship, made possible by this gift, will make a difference in the lives of many students in the Monfort College of Business,” said Keiko Krahnke, interim dean of the Monfort College of Business. “The long-term commitment to our students from people who care allows us to continue to foster future leaders. We are extremely grateful to the Colorado Housing and Finance Authority for their generosity.”
