Faculty Member Helped Write Learning Companion for the Film ORIGIN

    Stream, then study

UNC School of Teacher Education Professor, Matthew Farber, Ed.D., has ties to an online component surrounding the recently released film that debuted number one on Hulu, “ORIGIN.” Directed by Ava DuVernay, “ORIGIN”, is about a journalist who investigates the global phenomenon of caste and its dark influence on society while uncovering the beauty of human resilience. Following the film, a Learning Companion was released to promote further discussion of racism, culture and community. The interactive online experience walks the reader through different lessons that Farber and seven others around the nation wrote.

“The goal with this project is to give the audience an educational experience beyond the movie itself,” Farber said. “We all created a one stop shop where people can learn about the themes of the movie. It was a great opportunity and experience to be part of.”

The director recently did an interview talking about the Learning Companion on the Kelly Clarkson show.
