Gregory J. Anton ‘87, certified public accountant, business leader and UNC alumnus is the newest member of the University of Northern Colorado’s Board of Trustees. Colorado Governor Jared Polis announced his appointment on Dec. 16, which is pending confirmation by the Colorado General Assembly. Polis also reappointed current trustee Steve Jordan, Ph.D., a UNC alumnus who has held the presidential office and other senior leadership positions at several higher education institutions.
“We are thrilled to have Dr. Jordan for another term. His experience has proven to be invaluable. We are equally as thrilled to welcome Bear alumnus Greg Anton, who is no stranger to the UNC campus, a former member of the Foundation Board as well as a current member of the Kenneth W. Monfort School of Business Dean advisory board,” said UNC Board of Trustees Chair Dick Monfort.
Anton, who earned a bachelor’s degree in Accounting from UNC, has over three decades of experience providing accounting, auditing and consulting services to clients in many industries at the state, national and global level. He is a founding partner of the CPA firm ACM LLP, which joined BDO USA LLP in 2020, where he currently serves as a partner and market leader for Colorado. Anton also currently serves on several professional boards, including on the Governing Council of the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA), and on the board of directors of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC). He also previously served as chairman for the AICPA, receiving the institute’s Gold Medal Award for Distinguished Service in 2015. The honor is the highest award granted by AICPA that recognizes CPAs who have made major contributions to the profession. He is a past chair of the Colorado Society of CPA’s Board of Directors, where he helped to raise over $1 million for college accounting scholarships as co-chair of the foundation’s Centennial Scholarship Campaign, and has been recognized as one of the Top Most Influential People in Accounting by Accounting Today.
His community and charitable involvements include Junior Achievement board member; Mile High United Way trustee; Wish for Wheels board member; Colorado Concern member; founding member, current board member and past chairman of Executives Partnering to Invest in Children (EPIC); and past board member of Wish of a Lifetime.
Throughout his successful and distinguished career, Anton has also kept close ties with the university. He currently serves on UNC’s Dean’s Leadership Advisory Council and was a past president of UNC’s Alumni Association, former member of the UNC Foundation Board, former member and chair of the Kenneth W. Monfort College of Business School of Accountancy Advisory Board and recognized as an honored alumni in 2004 for his contributions to business. He has also served as a mentor to UNC students, offering employment opportunities to graduates, and a trusted resource to UNC faculty.
“I very much enjoyed my experience at UNC, not only on campus as a student, but also in various volunteer capacities, including president of the Alumni Association and as a member of the Foundation board,” Anton said. “I’m very grateful for this new opportunity to serve on the Board of Trustees and continue supporting the university at the highest level.”
The terms for Anton and Jordan will run through 2027. Anton replaces former trustee and vice chair Janice Sinden, whose term ended in December.
UNC's Board of Trustees consists of seven members appointed by the governor, plus a non-voting faculty member elected by peers and a student elected by peers. For more information, visit the board’s website.
