Heeseung Lee, Ph.D., an assistant professor of Music History and Theory from the UNC School of Music gave a pre-concert talk at the 2024 Bravo Vail Music Festival during the opening weekend, featuring the Orquesta Sinfónica de Minería from Mexico. In her talk, titled "Timbre, Gesture, and Nuance: Savoring the Sonic Flavor of French and Spanish Classical Music," she shared a story about UNC's status as a Hispanic Serving Institution and highlighted the beauty of French and Spanish music, which is part of the musical heritage of our Hispanic and Latine-identifying students at UNC.
Under the direction of Carlos Miguel Prieto, the concert held on June 22 included performances of Maurice Ravel's "Le Tombeau de Couperin," Joaquín Rodrigo's "Concierto de Aranjuez" and Manuel de Falla's "El Amor Brujo." The following day, the Sinfónica de Minería also featured compositions by Gabriela Ortiz, Alberto Ginastera, Paquito D'Rivera, Arturo Márquez and Pacho Flores, honoring the growing Latino communities in Colorado.
