Grand Opening of the New Bear Pantry and Center for Student Well-Being

All UNC community members are invited to tour the new spaces and learn more about the Center for Student Well-Being

UNC’s Division of Student Affairs is excited to unveil a new and expanded Bear Pantry and Center for Student Well-Being (CSW) at an open house event on Monday, Jan. 27, from 3-5 p.m. The two new spaces are located adjacent to a new student lounge on the lower floor of the University Center, near Subway. All UNC community members are invited to tour the new spaces and learn more about these programs.

The Bear Pantry is UNC’s food pantry and is open to all students and employees who don’t have the resources to get the food they need. The new pantry is triple the size of the former pantry space on the second floor of the University Center and will increase the hours the pantry is open to students –previously accessible for 14 hours a week, the Bear Pantry will now be open 21 hours per week. Guests in the pantry will continue to be able to obtain seven food or essential non-food items per week in support of their food security.

The CSW is a new unit on campus created to provide students with individualized support related to their essential (basic) needs. Resource navigators in the CSW will provide support to undergraduate and graduate students to help them connect with resources related to housing, food, utility assistance, medical and mental health care, health insurance, childcare, transportation, access to course materials, clothing and emergency financial support. Resource navigators can also help students apply for federal and state benefit programs like the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Medicaid or the Colorado Low-Income Energy Assistance Program (LEAP).  To learn more about the CSW, including how to access services, visit the CSW webpage.

Construction and launch of these new programs were made possible in part by a $310,000 grant from The Weld Trust, ongoing support from The Weld Food Bank and by donations from individual and corporate donors.
