Art education professor Connie Stewart recently published the book Cultivating Critical Conversations in Art Education: Honoring Student Voice, Identity and Agency.
Stewart and her three co-editors set out to explore how art teaching is connected to world events and social concerns. The publication is a compilation of stories and practices about teaching in today's world and how caring educators are working to make sure that curriculum is relevant and student experiences are acknowledged.
"My fellow editors and I wanted to know what socially engaged teachers are doing in their classes at a time when education has become politicized," Stewart said. "We publicized a call for submissions and had more than twice as many submissions as we could accept. The final book has 41 chapters with 68 contributors."
