Nearly 50% of UNC students report having been food-insecure at some point in the last
year. To assist, UNC's Bear Pantry supports community members coping with food insecurity and relies on volunteers to
do so.
With the opening of Bear Pantry for the fall semester starting on Monday, Aug.21, volunteers are needed. The program requires two volunteers for every hour the pantry
is open. Volunteers greet students, assist students with the checkout process, track
inventory and help stock shelves. All volunteers will receive training to enable them
to provide exceptional support to pantry guests and ensure food safety.
Hours of operation:
- Mondays: 5 - 7 p.m.
- Tuesdays: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and 5 - 7 p.m.
- Wednesdays: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and 5 - 7 p.m.
- Thursdays: 1 - 4 p.m.
Classified, professional administrative staff and faculty are eligible for up to 16
hours of paid administrative leave to participate in community or school volunteer
activities each fiscal year.
