Despite flight cancellations and travel delays, six UNC McNair Scholars students, accompanied by Instructor and Advisor, Pepper Mueller traveled to Los Angeles July 27-30th to attend the UCLA National McNair Scholars Conference. Students had the opportunity to tour graduate programs at UCLA, Cal Tech, and the University of Southern California, attend a graduate school fair, poster presentations of undergraduate research, and orally present their own research in conference sessions.
Keynote speakers featured Dr. J. Luke Wood, Vice President of Student Affairs & Campus Diversity and Professor of Education at San Diego State University and Dr. Gina Poe, UCLA Professor of Integrative Biology and Physiology and Director of the MARC U Star program. Highlights of the trip also included opportunities to make new connections with fellow scholars from other institutions across the country, a visit to Hollywood’s Walk of Fame and the chance to explore the Grammy Museum in downtown L.A.
