Involvement Opportunities: GSRC Mentorship Program and Book Discussion

April 08, 2021

The Division of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion would like to share two opportunities for involvement for the 2021-2022 academic year. In partnership with the University Libraries, you are encouraged to provide your input on possible titles for the fall campus book discussion / summer book club. Title suggestions are provided by various authors including: Yaa Gyasi, Ta-Nehisi Coates, Elizabeth Acevedo, Stephan Graham Jones, Michael Bennet, and several others. The survey also provides you the opportunity to make additional book suggestions. Please take a moment to complete the survey by April 16 at https://bit.ly/3m36lup. https://bit.ly/3m36lup

Another essential opportunity for involvement is through the GSRC Mentoring Program which is accepting applications for Mentors and Mentees for the fall 2021-spring 2022 academic semesters.  As research states, it is incredibly important for marginalized individuals to be able to have mentors within their own respective communities.  We know that students who are part of the LGBTQ+ community often are different from other marginalized groups because they do not usually have parents or guardians who also hold their identities.  This is what makes the GSRC mentoring program so important to our students.  Through the mentoring program our UNC students are given the opportunity to learn together with Faculty/Staff who hold similar identities.  The program focuses on both academic and personal development.  If you have an interest in joining the GSRC mentoring program, please feel free to learn more on the GSRC website or find our application for the program here.
