Data and statistics drive the world today, from business and healthcare, to societal issues. At the intersection of mathematics and science, statistics is a fast growing field: jobs are forecast to grow 31% much faster than the average for all other occupations fields from 2021-30, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. UNC's bachelor of science degree in Statistics prepares students for careers in a variety of fields across multiple industries to work on equations, predictive modeling or computation.
Housed in the College of Natural and Health Sciences, the Statistics program teaches students the techniques, applications and theories of statistics so they can create design models for biology, business, criminal justice, earth science, geography, medicine, law, psychology and other areas.
Statistics Careers by the Numbers
Statistics is the science of learning from data and measuring, controlling and communicating uncertainty. Statistics and data science is increasingly integrated into most fields in some capacity. Statisticians collect and analyze data to make assumptions about trends and helps drive scientific and societal advances.
Our Statistics program trains graduates for jobs involving the design and analysis of statistical models in areas such as environmental, governmental, industrial, miliary and social settings. Graduates may work as data scientists, statisticians, business analyst, actuary or other data-focused jobs.
