- What do you mean by the Integrated Student Support Hub?
- It is a work in progress, there is a working group discussing what this means for UNC
- It is a synonym for the one-stop and it is not just re-locating offices but looking at the vision of how we support student success.
- What is the current vision for it?
- It is currently a work in progress
- In the past, we have set up structures to fit staff/faculty
- We are looking at things from a student perspective, the assumption of students now is that they are supposed to know where to go and what they need.
- Students will go to the one-stop for non-academic Advising
- The staff will be trained to resolve and follow up on many issues students may face
- Students will also be able to locate new opportunities for them
- Examples may include Career Services and Study Abroad
- Where will the Office of Student Engagement be?
- We are currently thinking about realigning functions
- Also thinking about re-organizing offices that will not move to Campus Commons
- Enrollment has grown, but what about limited classes being offered?
- Class issues: We are looking into the issue being scheduling rather than a facilities issue
- Our growth will likely come from off-campus and Extended campus programs
- Housing issues: A possible solution would be to limit upperclassmen deciding to stay on campus
- There is also a plan to revamp Arlington Park Apartments for International community
- We are looking into outside programs to support affordable housing
- There was an Appreciation in regards to addressing the Bias Response Team
- UNC examined how we got here and how we deal with interpersonal conflict
- Discrimination policies were initially borrowed for Bias Response Team
- Many students are leaving because they do not feel like they can address and approach
their faculty
- We are currently working with faculty on better response to students in the Fall, Spring, and Summer
- We are also working to ensure faculty have a communication plan when they are out of office
- What is the current Bias Response process? Where do I send students that come to me
with concerns?
- We are currently looking into the process moving forward
- As for now, Dr. Katrina Rodriguez will be handling: compliance, climate, and culture
- Faculty concern will go through the college
- Student concern will go through the Dean of Students
- The area in-between Discrimination and Student Conduct?
- The process can be unpacking the issue with the student and a possible mediation if they feel they cannot talk to Faculty
- We are excited to have these conversations
- What about staff & faculty training being more of a requirement rather than being
optional?
- Creation of Katrina’s position will oversee training and professional development
- There may be some required trainings like Title IX
- We are working on how to encourage the training without mandating it
- We are also looking at different student conduct policies to convey to students
- How do you describe transformative education?
- It is an education that changes the person’s life and the lives of people around them
- The root of educate is to lead out and not stuff in
- What makes you come back every day?
- There is a pride in UNC and a deep heart feeling that everyone knows who UNC is
- UNC reflects a culture and mentality of moving forward/bring it on
- Are we working on being proactive in communication regarding the good things UNC is
doing?
