Fellow Bears:

Yesterday, Governor Polis shared that we are seeing evidence of a flattening of the curve in Colorado thanks in large part to social distancing and the implementation of the state’s Stay at Home order. He also shared that he plans to let the Stay at Home order expire on April 27, at which point Colorado will shift to a Safer at Home stage. While this progression certainly moves us all in the right direction, it will still likely be months before we see any return to the normal we remember. Even as some businesses reopen, doing so will require significant social distancing precautions.

During the Safer at Home period, events of 10 or more people are still not allowed, and schools are still required to deliver instruction via online delivery. We have no way to know when moderate to large gathering will be safe or allowed, so we have made the decision to cancel all campus events through July 31, 2020. This will include in-person classes (all summer courses will be delivered online), New Student Orientations, Concerts Under the Stars, Little Theatre of the Rockies, sports camps, summer enrichment programs, and other events on campus or sanctioned by the university. The decision is being made now so that programs and events that can be converted to online or alternate delivery have time to do so, and so that programs that must cancel can do so with advance notice for participants. As updated plans for online programs are finalized and cancellations or postponements are announced for other programs, information about them will be available on UNC’s Coronavirus page.

We are currently evaluating the broader impact of a transition from the Stay at Home order to a Safer at Home stage on restrictions UNC placed on access to campus facilities back in March. As we confer with our partners in state government and explore the implications for UNC, including the health and safety of our people, we will share additional details with all of you.

Thank you all for your continued dedication to UNC and our students. Stay healthy, Bears!
