Prospective Students

Are you interested in joining us at UNC for a graduate degree in Biomechanics? Then this is the place to find all the information you need!

The Biomechanics Lab is housed within the College of Natural and Health Sciences under the School of Sport and Exercise Science (SES).

Graduate Degrees

We offer Masters of Science (MS) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees with an emphasis in Exercise Science and a concentration in Biomechanics.

Applications

Applications must be completed through the Graduate School. You must submit a packet to the Graduate School which contains:

1. Graduate application 
2. Transcripts from all Universities attended
3. GRE scores (doctoral students only)

Note on GRE scores:

You must meet the minimum requirements for Graduate School admission (140 Quantitative; 146 Verbal Reasoning; Combined score of at least 297; Analytic Writing 3.5)

Main considerations for admission into the Biomechanics Program, are: (a) the academic background of the student (science courses, including Physics, Mechanics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Anatomy, Physiology, etc.); (b) quantitative GRE score (doctoral applicants only), should be at least in the 150’s, and preferably in the 160's; and (c) research background in biomechanics and/or closely related areas. Outstanding students from the biological and engineering sciences are encouraged to apply.

Doctoral Students

If you would like to be considered for a Graduate Teaching Assistantship, you must also fill out a TA application. This form must be returned to the School of Sport and Exercise Science.
