Summer Programs
Participation in the summer programs is required
Summer Academy
The UNC McNair Summer Academy program is a 6-week program* designed for McNair Scholars as they enter their junior year. Participants will:

Attend classes and participate in cohort activities on Tuesday and Thursdays in June & July from 9am-2pm
- UNIV431 (2 credits)
- Overview of research process and philosophy
- LIB251 (1 credit)
- Literature review preparation
- UNIV431 (2 credits)
*This program includes activities such as guided work time and visits to local graduate schools. Therefore, the McNair program provides a room and board stipend (usually ~$900) and can arrange for students to stay in UNC dorms for the duration of the program if needed.
Summer PREP
The UNC McNair Summer PREP program is a 1-week intensive program* designed for McNair Scholars as they enter their senior year. Participants will:
- Prepare for and complete necessary graduate admissions tests (e.g., the GRE).
- Begin the graduate school search and application process, while learning strategies to maximize your chances of getting accepted into the graduate program of your choice.
Other Summer Activities
- Disseminate their independent research project in the form of conference presentations and potentially submission for publication (second summer).
