My name is Casey Montoya, I am the eldest of four and a 1st generation college student.
I was born and raised in Stamford, Connecticut, but we moved to Colorado in the sixth
grade. I am currently a junior working on my bachelor’s degrees in both Human Services
and Criminal Justice. My academic goal after graduation is to continue my education
by either enrolling into the Public Health Masters Program here at UNC or at the University
of Amsterdam with the Cultural and Social Anthropology Masters Program. I do plan
to further my education by obtaining my PhD as well. My aspiration in life would be
to be able to say I am happy with the helping hand that I provided in overcoming the
food insecurity problem in underrepresented communities around the world. I am part
of many outstanding organizations here in the UNC campus, such as The Presidential
Leadership Program, The Stryker Institute for Leadership Development, and The Center
for Human Enrichment, all while being part of The Ronald E. McNair Scholars Program.
With all these wonderful programs preparing me for what is to come next but as well
as providing me with the tools to become the person I aspire to be, I will be able
to complete all of my career goals of helping the less fortunate obtain the correct
amount of resources that their communities need, fighting along side with women from
all over the world to make a stance of the equal rights, also a Victims Advocate for
Sexual Assault Survivors. Creating a place where concerns can be spoken of along with
providing a window for those who come from the same background as me to see that the
skies the limit when it comes education. I am excited to see what my future holds
for me, and also honored and grateful to be apart of the McNair Scholars. Thank you
for this amazing opportunity.
