Professional/Academic Experience
My name is Yessica Berumen Martinez. I was born and raised in Greeley, Colorado. As
a first generation latinx student, I started out at Aims Community College and now
am proud to be at the University of Northern Colorado. I am currently double majoring
in Anthropology & Human Services with a minor in Psychology. My academic goal is to
eventually get my master's and maybe someday my Ph.D. in either Public Health or a
field in Anthropology. My current professional goal is to become an archeologist that
will actively work on digs across the United Sates. Eventually, I also want to be
able to use my human services career to work in foster care programs or in social
services. Some of my proudest achievements are volunteering at a PeaceJam Conference
and being able to meet the Nobel Peace Laureate, Rigoberta Menchú Tum. As well as
being recognized on the 2018-2019 Dean’s Honor Roll at UNC, I participated in the
Fort Massachusetts excavation in the summer of 2019. As for my biggest achievement
now, it is being chosen to be part of the Ronald E. McNair Scholar Program. With McNair
by my side, I will be sure to succeed. I hope to encourage other students to pursue
higher education and see where it takes them. We might not always know where we’re
going but we are sure to end up where we’re supposed to be.
