Biography

Hi, my name is Ivan Orquera, and I am a geography major from Anaheim (Disneyland), California. Since I transferred to UNCO during the 2016-2017 school year, the Center for Human Enrichment has been my support network. Most recently, through hard work and support from faculty, mentors, and advisors, I was accepted into the McNair Scholars Program. It was an unforeseen, yet fortunate opportunity. Before I graduate, my academic goal is to acquire an assistantship for graduate school to develop my skills as a professional geographer. My long-term professional goal is to teach classes related to human geography and to work with geography enthusiasts. Field research fascinates me, so this December I will be conducting research abroad in Guyana. The geography team and I will be focusing on conservation and development in Guyana and the Amazon Rainforest.
