Using Online Resources
ArchivesSpace
ArchivesSpace is our online tool that allows you to search what is in the Archives & Special Collections. ArchivesSpace contains our finding aids, which are descriptions of our individual collections. Finding aids will help you understand what kind of materials and information you’ll find inside a particular collection. You will not find digital scans or images of the materials in ArchivesSpace, but rather a summary of what materials you can see if you visit in person (for digitized materials you can view on the web, see Digitized Materials below). Here is a brief video tutorial on using ArchivesSpace:
Libraries Catalog
The UNC Libraries online catalog allows you to search all types of library resources. Using this tool, you can find books and other published materials that are located in Archives & Special Collections. If you need help navigating the catalog, the UNC Libraries YouTube channel has tons of resources to help with your searching.
Research Guides
Research Guides can help point you towards resources and databases to help in your research. The James A. Michener Research Guide is an example of a guide made by our staff.
Databases
Want some help searching our databases? Check out Database Search Tips for advice on getting the most out of your UNC Libraries online searches.
UNC Web Archive
The UNC Web Archive includes past versions of websites from the unco.edu domain and web content documenting UNC student life, campus activities, and university-related initiatives. Begun in 2019 and hosted by Archive-It, websites are crawled and added on a regular basis.
Digitized Materials
You can find digitized archival materials on our online repository, Digital UNC. There you will find campus newspapers, yearbooks, commencement programs, photographs, and more. Digitized copies of theses and dissertations can be found on UNCOpen.
