Leadership Studies Minor

Program Overview

Students completing the Leadership Studies minor will adapt and develop skills from cross-cultural and multi-cultural perspectives for inclusive leadership. The minor is steeped in the ethics of leadership with a focus on adaptive and inclusive leadership processes, relevant to all disciplines. Inclusive leadership is a multi-level concept (individual, teams, groups, organizations) that is navigated through multiple theoretical lenses. Students in the UNC Leadership Studies Minor will develop skills in decision making, problem solving, strategic planning, communication, and group dynamics, all framed within the lens of ethical and adaptable application of different leadership models.

The leadership studies minor focuses on developing breadth of learning about leadership including connecting leadership practices with theoretical and disciplinary frameworks.

Students completing the minor will be able to demonstrate the following learning outcomes:

    1. Describe and explain diverse ideologies and cultural perspectives of differing leadership styles, theories, and models of leadership and followership.
    2. Analyze, develop, and communicate modes of effective leadership in multiple settings (small teams, community groups, organizations)
    3. Apply ethical frameworks to assess consequences and outcomes in relation to problem solving or decision-making.
