Master of Arts

The Higher Education and Student Affairs Leadership (HESAL) Master of Arts (M.A.) degree is a 39-credit hour program that prepares student affairs professionals who are competent, effective leaders. The M.A. curriculum follows standards outlined by the Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education (CAS Standards) and competencies outlined by the American College Personnel Association and the association for Student Affairs Professionals in Higher Education (ACPA/NASPA Professional Competencies). Our alignment of the curriculum to professional standards is to ensure graduates are prepared for a variety of professional roles in today’s changing, diverse higher education environments. Students engage in practical experiences under the mentorship of experienced higher education and student affairs leaders through graduate assistantships, field experiences, and/or internships. The faculty promote an educational environment that values diverse perspectives, inclusivity, and social justice.
