Beyond the Classroom

UNC students have a variety of opporunities to get outside of the lecture hall and into the field, including, but not limited to field research in the Arctic Circle, musical performances in New York, fashion showcases in New York, teaching in Belize, shadowing physician's at UNC's own Cancer Rehabilitation Center, and studying abroad in Asia.

From August 13-17, Karen Barton, UNC professor of Geography, GIS and Sustainability in the College of Humanity and Social Sciences, took 14 UNC students up to Estes Park for a hands-on workshop entitled “Careers in National Parks and Protected Areas.”

In June, students and faculty from the School of Music visited the Dominican Republic to run workshops, round tables, masterclasses and educational concerts. They also received training and participated in events with music professionals in the island.
