On March 25th, at 9 A.M., a 5k race occurred at University High School in Greeley. Over 60 people braved the icy conditions and showed high spirits throughout the event. Registration for this event was $22 and was collected online in advance.
This 5k race was for a local non-profit organization, Women 2 Women. Offering one-time financial assistance of up to $750 to women struggling in Weld County. So far, they have helped over 2,150 women who were in need.
The financial assistance can be used for several things ranging from rent, security
deposits, utilities, medical costs, transportation, and child care. The organization
only asks for the Women to pay it forward through acts of kindness such as picking
up trash, offering their seats, or shoveling snow.
Madison Croissant, a University High School student, organized this entire 5k race for her senior project. She had been planning this race for over a year. With the support from the community, teachers, family, and race-goers, Madison was able to raise a total of $2307, $1100 of which was donated.
Croissant got most of her resources donated from Altitude Running to help
decrease some of the costs. She rounded up a handful of volunteers to help her
throughout the race. Madison also had beverages, food, and goody bags for all the
racers to enjoy before the race.
