UNC staff and students celebrated the grand opening of a remodeled University Center. The construction tape and caution signs have been lifted, meaning new food options are now open for all. This was cause for celebration as UNC staff held a cake cutting.
This opening was made possible by the hard work of many. This work included things like taste tests, student surveys, as well as public forums to make sure student voices were heard.
These new restaurant options include Cristol Latin Kitchen, Bowlful, Empire State Pizza, as well as Burger and Company. The construction of these restaurants also included renovations to the west-side windows of the University Center as well as an outdoor patio.
Meagan Johnson is the director of dining services and offered some insight into what UNC staff was envisioning for the new University Center.
“We really just wanted a space for students to hang out. We didn’t feel like there was any place for students to hang out and watch a game on campus,” said Johnson. “We honestly just want students to use this space.”
This past week, the Bear News staff shed the spotlight on Bowlful. Bowlful offers students healthy choices including vegetarian, vegan and gluten-friendly options. Students can build their own salad, rice and noodle bowls at Bowlful with lunch being from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and dinner from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
