Vehicle thefts are an unfortunate common occurrence. However, the University of Northern Colorado has recently received multiple reports of car thefts in the past few weeks.
A Hyundai Accent was stolen from the parking lot south of Campus Commons, but was later recovered by police.
In recent weeks, the UNC Police received two reports of attempted motor vehicle thefts in Q-Lot by Tobey-Kendel Hall and I-Lot near North and South Hall. Not only did both reports involve Hyundai Accents, but the windows and ignition switches were found broken.
UNC Parking Services is encouraging students to use anti-theft devices such as steering wheel locks, a brake locking system, wheel clamps, GPS tracking devices, or a hidden battery disconnect switch.
Parking services have steering wheel and pedal locks available for students to use for free.
If you encounter any suspicious activity, call the UNC Police at 970-351-2245 or contact them through the Guardian App.
