After the Bear’s five-game winning streak was snapped by Eastern Washington, they looked to rebound against Idaho at home. It was a slow start for the team as they only scored four points in the whole first quarter.

UNC women’s basketball head coach Kristen Demattio made note of the struggles during the first quarter.

“We take all accountability for that," she said. "We have to step foot on the floor and be ready, it’s a forty-minute game.”

The second quarter saw a more positive change, but the team could only manage to score 11 points, bringing their first half total to 15 points. The Bears looked like they were bouncing back coming out of halftime, putting up 16 points to inch closer to capturing the lead.

For the Vandals, they thought that they had the game in the bag with their dominant first half on the defensive side. Once the third quarter began and ended, they were shocked by the Bears, scoring only 11 points compared to 21 points in the first quarter.

The final quarter saw the team mount a furious comeback, putting up 25 points on Idaho to quickly catch up and threaten the Vandal’s chances at victory. With under a minute to play, the Bears managed to score a clutch layup to bring the score to 56-58.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough as the Bears fell to the Vandals with a final score of 56-60. Sophomore Aniah Hall led the team in scoring with 19 points on 5-9 shooting, Redshirt Junior Seneca Hackley was close behind, scoring 13 points on 3-6 shooting and Senior Delaynie Byrne rounded off the scoring with seven points on 1-4 shooting.

The team will be traveling this week to rebound from two consecutive losses to take on the Idaho State Bengals on Thursday at 7 p.m. at the ICCU Dome.
