Holds and Error Messages

Holds

To determine if you have any holds that would prevent registration:

  • Log in to Ursa
  • Click on the Student Tab
  • Under “Registration Information,” click on the "View Student Information" link
  • In the Student Information form, view holds on the upper right section of the screen.

Common Holds*

Here is a list of some common holds. 

  • 03 - Past Due Registration Hold

    This hold is placed by the Bursar's Office (Student Accounts). Students owing $1000 or less will be able to register for the interim and/or spring term.  For all other terms there is a $200 threshold for registration. Contact the Bursar's Office at 970-351-4862 to resolve the hold. 

  • 21 - Immunization Req - Health Ctr

    This hold is placed if the UNC Student Health Center is missing required immunization records. Proof of immunization is required for taking courses at UNC. Please contact the Student Health Center at 970-351-1919 to resolve this hold.

  • 34 - Academic Standing

    This hold is placed when your GPA falls below 2.0 . To release this hold, you must contact your academic advisor. 

  • 37 - Academic Suspension

    This hold is placed when you are academically suspended. Please contact Student Academic Success at 970-351-1411 or by email at probation@unco.edu to learn about your options.

  • 35 - No Major 30 Hrs - Declare Mjr

    This hold is placed if you have not declared a program of study and have 30 or more completed units. To resolve this hold, you are required to declare a major by completing a Major/Minor Change form and receiving approval from the academic unit/program. 

  • 38 - Contact Registrar (Expired Catalog)

    This hold is for an expired catalog. Please contact your advisor to complete a Major/Minor change form to update your record to an active catalog. 

  • 50 - Student Athlete

    This hold is placed on all student-athletes at UNC. The hold requires students to contact their Student Athlete Academic Advisor before adding or dropping courses. 

  • 81, 82, 83, 84 & 85 - Student Conduct & Accountability

    This hold has been placed by Student Conduct & Accountability (SCA). Contact SCA at 970-351-2001 for information about your specific hold. 

  • 89 - Care Team

    This hold has been placed by the CARE Team. Students can contact their case manager directly, or the Dean of Students office at 970-351-2001, to learn more about how to resolve the hold. 

To have a hold released, you should contact the department that placed the hold

Common Registration Error Messages

We’ve put together a list of some common error and restriction messages to help you get through the process smoothly and confidently. For some of these error messages, it may be possible to receive an instructor override, in which case you should email your instructor to ask for assistance. All UNC emails are firstname.lastname@unco.edu.

  • Time Tickets prevent registration at this time. 

    Students register based on the number of completed units and by level. If you receive this message, you are trying to register before your designated registration date. View the Registration Schedule to determine your designated registration time slot. 

  • Student Status prohibits registration

    If the student has an inactive status on their student record, they will receive this error. Contact the Office of the Registrar to determine the best way to reactivate the account. 

  • You may not add or drop classes due to holds on your record

    Student has a hold on their account which prevents registration (including add, drop or withdrawal). Contact the department that placed the hold to resolve. 

    If you need to drop or withdrawal from a course(s) and are unable to resolve the hold, please contact the Office of the Registrar for assistance. 

  • Campus Restriction

    Registration limited to a specific campus program. Subject to program, department, or instructor approval.

  • Student Attribute Restriction

    Registration is restricted to a specific student program.

  • Class Restriction

    Registration is restricted to specific class level(s) i.e. Juniors or Seniors. Contact the instructor of record for permission to enter the class. A faculty override will be needed.

  • Closed Section

    Course is full. Add to Waitlist if available or contact the instructor of record for permission to enter the class. A faculty override will be needed.

  • College Restriction

    Course registration is restricted to a specific college. Contact the instructor of record for permission to enter the class. A faculty override will be needed.

  • Cohort Restriction

    Cohort Restriction - Registration limited to specific student cohort. Subject to program, department, or instructor approval.

  • Co-Requisite Required

    A co-requisite course must be registered for at the same time. Co-req course must be added at the same time before hitting acknowledge/submit. (Ex. Comm 100 and 103)

  • Duplicate CRN
    Attempting to register for the same course twice. Cannot register for a section more than once.
  • Equivalent Course Exclusion

    An Equivalent Course Exclusion error occurs when you attempt to enroll in a class that is equivalent with another class in which you already have credit (or have already enrolled). Courses are considered equivalent when they have significant overlapping or identical content. Student are only allowed to receive degree credit for one of the equivalent classes. 

  • Field of Study Restriction

    Course registration is restricted to specific Major and Minor only. Contact the instructor of record for permission to enter the class. A faculty override will be needed.

  • Instructor Approval

    Instructor consent is needed to enter the course. Contact the instructor of record for permission to enter the class. A faculty override will be needed.

  • Level Restriction

    Undergraduate student attempting to register for a graduate-level course. 

  • Major Restriction

    Course registration is restricted to specific Major only. Contact the instructor of record for permission to enter the class. A faculty override will be needed.

  • Maximum Hours

    You’ve attempted to register for more than 18 hours (undergraduates) or 17 hours (graduate students). A Overload Request Form (Graduate or Undergraduate) is required.

  • Prerequisite Restriction

    Must meet all prerequisites of the course to register. See Catalog for course prerequisites. Contact the instructor of record for permission to enter the class. A faculty override will be needed.

  • Time Conflict with CRN #

    Time conflict with another course on your schedule. Contact the instructor of record for permission to enter the class. A faculty override will be needed.
