Homecoming 2021 is here, and the Bears are Back in Town. Unlike last year’s virtual celebration from home, UNC’s Homecoming traditions, some of them dating back to 1923, are returning to in-person again. Get ready for a weekend of fun events that will help students connect with their fellow Bears, and for alumni to remember the great experiences they had as a student. Homecoming only comes once a year, so come embrace the chance to create memories that will last all year.
Here’s all the upcoming events for alumni, students and residents to look forward to:
BearSynch Dance Competition
Thursday, Oct. 7, from 7 - 9 p.m., at the Garden Theatre
Welcome Black Cookout
Friday, Oct. 8, from 4 – 7 p.m., at the Marcus Garvey Cultural Center
Bonfire & Fireworks
On Friday, Oct. 8, at 6:15 p.m., students and community members are invited to gather in Bishop-Lehr and Doubenmeir Field G Lot for a bonfire and fireworks show.
Homecoming 5K
Saturday, Oct. 9, at 9 a.m., hosted by the Campus Recreation Center
Registration costs $20. You’ll get a limited edition Homecoming 5K shirt and, by completing the race, you’ll have the chance to win a variety of prizes.
Pepsi Bears Fan Fest Tailgate
Before the homecoming football game, be sure to stop by the Alumni Association Tailgate to reconnect with old friends. The tailgate is near the north endzone on Saturday, Oct. 9, at 10 a.m., in the Nottingham Field Parking Lots.
Football Game
Saturday, Oct. 9, at 1 p.m., at Nottingham Field.
The traditional Saturday homecoming football game this year pits the Bears against Eastern Washington.
Class of 1971 Lunch and Game Ticket
Saturday, Oct. 9, at 1 p.m., at the Nottingham Field North Terrace
Black Greek Kick Back
Saturday, Oct. 9, at 6 p.m., at the Marcus Garvey Cultural Center
1996 National Championship 25th Anniversary Reunion
Friday, Oct. 8 – Saturday, Oct. 9.
