University Archives

The University Archives contains the historical records that document the growth, development and communities of the University of Northern Colorado.  The University Archives preserves and makes accessible primary source materials related to the administrative, academic, and social history of the university since its foundation in the late nineteenth century.  The records provide an excellent resource for researching a wide variety of topics, including administrative history of the institution, student life and activism, regional diversity, history of education, family history, athletics, and community relations.

• University of Northern Colorado Collections

  The University Archives contains several distinct collections documenting numerous aspects of campus life. The collections encompass a wide variety of materials, including official publications, minutes, correspondence, photographs, scrapbooks, oral histories, financial documents and much more. They document events ranging from student life to major Board of Trustees decisions.

• Using University Archives

  The University Archives is organized into smaller collections to facilitate access to the items. This section explains how to access different materials. Finding aids can be searched in an online database called ArchivesSpace. Materials that have been published, including yearbooks, newspapers, faculty monographs, and catalogs, can be located using the libraries catalog.

• Transferring Records

  If your unit or student organization is out of space or experiencing staff changes, now might be a good time to review your records. The University Archives & Special Collections Department is the repository for UNC's inactive official records and student organization historical materials.

• UNC's History

  UNC has a rich history from its beginnings as the Colorado State Normal School in 1889. It has long played an active role in the growth and development of education in the region and the nation.
