Scholarships & Awards

Each spring, the Department of Criminology & Criminal Justice awards three scholarships.

Two of these scholarships are within the Victims of Violent Crime Endowment – the Victims of Violent Crime Scholarship and the Lisa Marie Kimmell Memorial Scholarship, a tribute to 1988 murder victim, Lisa Marie Kimmell. The Kimmell family endorsed the establishment of the Lisa Marie Kimmell Memorial Scholarship to promote professionalism in the field of criminal justice. Recipients of either of these two scholarships must be CRJ majors who are entering their junior or senior year and are active members of UNC’s Criminal Justice Society.  Students are encouraged to apply in the fall or early spring semesters, before matriculating to junior or senior status. The Criminal Justice Scholar Athlete award is for a CRJ major and student-athlete, who has demonstrated exceptional academic performance.
