University Advancement

Building on the reputation of more than 130 years of academic excellence and community impact, University Advancement elevates the brand of UNC, engages external constituents, and develops the philanthropic strategies that support UNC priorities. 

Reporting to Vice President Allie Steg Haskett ’03, UNC’s advancement staff manage all facets of UNC’s external operation to include advancement operations, alumni and community relations, development, and marketing and communications.

The division works with UNC leadership as well as faculty and staff to effectively promote and market the university, strengthen and celebrate alumni career outcomes, and engage constituents and community partners in philanthropy, volunteerism, advocacy. The division is also responsible for the management of UNC's alumni constituent records which inform strategic relationship management and program assessment and accreditation. Additionally, the UNC Foundation, a separate legal entity, works closely with all of University Advancement and is integrated both physically and strategically in all facets of the advancement enterprise.

Bears First Program Gives All Students a Chance to Succeed  

Meeting students where they are is important for ensuring they feel supported and welcomed on campus. For many students entering university with a 3.0 or below grade point average (GPA), they have fewer opportunities for financial support for reasons that are frequently out of their control. That is why the Alumni Association Board directed the Sharon Gander Alumni Scholarship to support Bears First students, a program to support students entering college with below a 3.0 GPA, after an alumna left part of her estate to UNC.

Women’s Walk Gives a Venue for Student-Athletes to Support Their Fans

Women’s Walk is a fun, family-friendly event where your interactions with student-athletes are just as memorable as the scholarship funds that you help raise. While you walk with friends and family, UNC’s Division I student-athletes cheer you on, just as you do at all their games. For graduate student and volleyball setter, Syd Cole, ’23, the community support at her games is one of her favorite parts of being on the team. Returning the support at this year’s 16th Annual Women’s Walk will be another memorable bonding experience for her and her teammates, and a powerful showing of support for all women’s athletics programs.

Join the UNC community in celebrating the 2024 Athletic Hall of Fame Class. Savannah Smith, ’19, MBA ’21, of women’s basketball, Jordan Davis, ’19, of men’s basketball, Mariel Gutierrez, ’18, of women's soccer and Tom Runnells of baseball are the newly elected members of the 25th class of the Northern Colorado Athletics Hall of Fame to be inducted this September.
