Hey there!
Don't get too nostalgic on me, but let's take a little trip down memory lane to junior year. What kind of mail were you getting? When I was a junior, I got a bunch of brochures and postcards and stuff. Even a phone call or two from admission counselors. Once, I got an invitation to apply for free to a college I had barely even heard of.
This year, my brother is a senior in high school (hey man! I'm proud of you!), and let me tell you, he gets WAYYY more college mail than I ever did. So apparently that's still a thing. If the deluge hasn't started for you yet, it will soon. Postcards. Brochures. Magazines. Stickers.
Overall, you'll end up with a whole bunch of recycling.
Where the heck do all those materials come from? And why do some students get more than others?
There are a couple factors. Probably the biggest one is whether you checked the box that said "Sure, colleges can contact me" when you took the PSAT, SAT or ACT. Another way colleges can get your name is if you enter your contact info on college search websites and apps.
Colleges know you're not reading many of your college emails, so they send mail, too. What to do with it all? Hang on to pieces from schools you want to learn more about, or bookmark their websites. Pay special attention to deadlines for colleges you're interested in. Shred the rest for hamster bedding.
