Admission Decision Appeal Process

An applicant who was denied admission to the University of Northern Colorado is eligible to appeal the decision in the circumstances and pursuant to the procedures described below.  

Academic Appeals

An applicant for undergraduate admission who was denied admission based on their prior academic performance may file an appeal of that decision when:

  • The reason for the denial was that insufficient information was submitted as part of the original application and/or
  • Additional information not available at the time the original application was submitted is relevant to, and supports reconsideration of, the admission decision.

In order to appeal the denial of admission for academic reasons, the applicant must complete the Undergraduate Admission Decision Appeal form. Please use the email and password you used to create your admission application to access this form. This form will require the applicant to upload the following documents:

  • Appeal letter – a letter written by the student that explains the basis for their appeal on one or both of the grounds described above (“why do you believe the denial of your application should be reconsidered?”)
  • Any documentation that supports the reasons discussed in the appeal letter (for example, an updated transcript, updated test scores and/or letters of recommendation.)

Criminal, Disciplinary, or Academic Misconduct Appeals

Pursuant to Colorado Revised Statutes, an applicant for undergraduate or graduate admission who was denied admission based on information provided by the applicant about the applicant’s (1) prior convictions for stalking, sexual assault, or domestic violence; (2) prior convictions, within five years before submitting their application, for assault, kidnapping, voluntary manslaughter, or murder: (3) prior disciplinary history at another academic institution for stalking, sexual assault, or domestic violence: (4) criminal charges pending against the applicant: or (5) academic misconduct (such as plagiarism or cheating), may file an appeal of that decision.

In order to appeal the denial of admission for criminal, disciplinary, or academic misconduct reasons, the applicant must complete the Criminal, Disciplinary, or Academic Misconduct Appeal Form. An appeal must be submitted no later than 14 calendar days from the date of the denial of admission.

  • Appeal letter – a letter written by the student that explains the basis for their appeal (“why do you believe the denial of your application should be reconsidered?”)
  • Any documentation that supports the reasons discussed in the appeal letter (for example, any additional information regarding the criminal, disciplinary, or academic misconduct matter(s) or information about your activities and successes subsequent to the misconduct.)

Decisions will be made and communicated to the applicant by the Assistant Vice President for Enrollment Management within 28 calendar days of receipt of the appeal. Any decision to overturn will be communicated to the Office of Admissions.
