The College of Natural and Health Sciences offers bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral programs in the natural, health, human and mathematical sciences. Our students benefit from mentoring by faculty who are national and international experts in their fields and from meaningful research opportunities in state-of-the-art facilities.

Our graduates leave us with a first-class education that has prepared them to contribute to society whether they become health-care providers, educators, scientists, dietitians, speech-language pathologists, audiologists, sport administrators, rehabilitation counselors, mathematicians, athletic trainers, recreation program managers, gerontologists or work in other public service-oriented fields. Regardless of their area of expertise, they make a difference in the communities in which they live and work.

Rosemary

Forging Connections Becomes Key Link to College Success

Looking at the number of programs and organizations Nursing senior Rosemary Gonzalez has been involved in during her time at UNC, it is hard to imagine how she felt first moving to Greeley – an imposter who didn’t belong.  

“I am a first-generation student, so I had to navigate college on my own, which proved to be very difficult,” Gonzalez said.

New Study Explores Overcoming Stigma in Hiring People with Disabilities

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was passed 33 years ago this month, on July 26, 1990. Among other things, the law made it illegal to discriminate against individuals with disabilities in all areas of public life, ensuring they have the same rights and opportunities as everyone else. While much progress has been made over the past 30-plus years, many argue it's not enough as people with disabilities remain overrepresented among America’s poor and uneducated. It’s a disparity with far-reaching implications as chances are you either are someone living with a disability or know someone who is.

Novel and Interdisciplinary Research on Transgender Health

According to Transgender Health, the first peer-reviewed journal dedicated to addressing the healthcare needs of transgender individuals, multiple factors cause lower levels of physical activity in this community. While research has focused mainly on psychosocial barriers such as mental health, classification and accessibility, very little has been researched in terms of the impact of medical treatment on physical health. The implications of gender-affirming hormone therapy on physical activity have never been evaluated. Until now.

Every March, the Academic Scholar Awards recognizes outstanding undergraduate students within the NHS. Students are nominated by faculty for their outstanding scholarship, leadership skills, and their promise for the future in their program.

The Student Research Celebration honors noteworthy research done by students enrolled in NHS. The event features a showcase of faculty-mentored research follow by a banquet. Fundraising associated with this event benefits the NHS Student Research Fund.
