UNC English Faculty Member to Serve on National Committee
August 12, 2019
Tara Wood, Ph.D., was elected to serve a three-year term on the Conference on College Composition and Communication Executive Committee (CCCC), a flagship national body.
“Being elected to the CCCC Executive Committee is a tremendous honor, and I am eager to contribute to the mission of the organization,” said Wood, an assistant professor of English who directs the University of Northern Colorado’s Writing Program. “I hope to advocate for students and to help develop inclusive, research-based best practices in the discipline of Rhetoric and Composition and beyond.”
CCCC advocates for “broad and evolving definitions of literacy, communication, rhetoric, and writing (including multimodal discourse, digital communication and diverse language practices) that emphasize the value of these activities to empower individuals and communities."
Wood said directing UNC’s Writing Program has prepared her to tackle national issues in her elected position. She’s “inspired by all of the campus-wide work UNC has undertaken within the past year” and hopes to apply the “collaborative, optimistic effort” to her work at CCCC.
Her three-year term begins on Jan. 22.
