Students returning to campus for the 2023 spring semester will find three new restaurants at the University Center (UC), with a fourth one opening soon.
The four new options are in addition to the new Starbucks, which opened in Holmes Dining Hall earlier in the academic year, and two mobile food carts that park around campus providing cold and hot to-go meals.
Construction for the new restaurants included renovation of the west side windows in the UC, and an outdoor patio that will be complete later this spring.
When choosing new restaurants for the UC, the university says they took into consideration student desires, type of cuisine offered and proximity of different dining options to campus.
Students can choose from:
- Bowlful, which offers a variety of healthy choices including vegetarian, vegan and gluten-friendly options. Students will be able to build their own salad, rice and noodle bowls throughout the day.
- Empire State Pizza, a local New York-style pizza company that serves a variety of pizza at an affordable price. Empire State Pizza won the pizza taste test event held last semester.
- Crisol Latin Kitchen, a high-quality, authentic taste of Latin cuisine with menu choices that vary from healthy to indulgent and will give students unique foods to explore. This restaurant was specifically chosen because of an overwhelming student vote.
- Burger & Co., a perfect place to enjoy a great burger and watch sports. Burger & Co. will be opening in the middle of January and an outdoor patio will be added on later in the spring, which will provide students and community members a space to relax, study and take advantage of events like open mic nights, trivia, live music and more.
Students enrolled in the Meal Exchange program can use up to five meal swipes per week at Crisol Latin Kitchen, Bowlful, Burger & Co. and other participating locations including Einstein Bros® Bagels, Subway® and the food carts. All new restaurants are also taking dining dollars. Faculty and staff also have the option to use payroll deduction at all locations as well.
